BRINGING SAFE, RELIABLE ENERGY STORAGE TO ROGERS COUNTY

What is a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)?

We use batteries everyday, from our mobile phones and laptops to electric vehicles and toothbrushes, and the same technology that powers our personal devices powers our communities through battery energy storage projects.

Energy storage projects provide back-up power to homes and businesses, limit power outages, make our electrical grid more reliable, and enable our communities to run on clean, affordable energy.

Energy storage allows electricity to be saved and used at a later time, when and where it is most needed, which contributes to both our grid reliability and energy security.

Battery Energy Storage Systems draw energy from the grid during times of low demand and discharge that energy back to into the grid as needed during times of high demand. This becomes more important as PSO shutters the Northeastern Station Unit 3 coal plant in Oologah.

About The Project

Project Olive is an exciting, new 300 MW energy storage system proposed for Rogers County, OK.

The facility will sit on approximately 35-acres of land and be co-located with another energy storage project connected to Public Service Company of Oklahoma.

It will not emit any smell, smoke, or noise pollution typically associated with industrial facilities.

There will also be no discernible impacts on traffic.

Project Olive Energy Storage Facility will use technology provided by Wärtsilä, an energy storage system provider with exceptional experience, quality and a safety record that includes zero failures across its network of facilities

Having voluntarily subjected their battery storage system to a testing regime that exceeded existing standards, Wärtsilä demonstrated their commitment to safety and established a new benchmark for grid-level fire safety testing in the energy storage industry. This rigorous testing involved intentionally inducing a fire, revealing important information to the manufacturer, first responders and asset owners about how the system would react in the highly unlikely event of a cell failure and solidifying Wärtsilä’s position as a market leader in the manufacturing of safe, compliant energy storage systems. Their equipment has never experienced a failure or fire, but it features an internal fire suppression system as an added layer of protection and monitoring and predictive analytics softwares that can anticipate potential system failures up to a year in advance.

Multi-Stage Redundant Safety

Just like other energy sources, all energy storage projects must meet rigorous codes and standards to be permitted to operate, and Peregrine’s standards exceed requirements in multiple key aspects.

Peregrine has extensively reviewed applicable fire safety codes, participated in national, leading fire safety committees, and studied all fire incidents to date to create a best-in-class fire protection design standard for its projects focused on data availability and monitoring, predictive analytics, and redundant safety features at every level. The Project Olive facility will have 12 layers of protection solely focused on the prevention of fires and goes even further to provide detection, control, and notification to the emergency response team in the event of an incident.

Among its many benefits, energy storage projects provide back-up power to homes and businesses, limit power outages, make our electrical grid more reliable, and enable our communities to run on clean, affordable energy.

Energy storage facilities consist of rows of rechargeable batteries housed in self-contained, interconnected storage units and operate by drawing surplus energy from the local power grid during periods of low usage and storing it for later distribution back into the grid during peak demand. By storing energy when the demand for electricity is low and discharging that energy later during high demand, energy storage can reduce costs for utilities and save families and businesses money.

Community Benefits

On top of these economic benefits, Peregrine proudly invests heavily in the communities where operational and believes these communities know best as to where dollars are best spent.
